If you are in Athens for a few more days and want to see more of Greece, we have suggestions for you for private tours to destinations that are up to 4 hours driving away. Destinations with historical monuments near Athens are:

Ancient Corinth (the canal) and Epidaurus

The charming town of Palaia Korinthos (Ancient Corinth) is located only 84 km west of Athens. Besides the Archeological sites that attracts many tourists, you can find the Historic Museum and the Ecclesiastical Museum. While the canal is a ‘must’ stop for an Instagram story.

If you have time to spend and want to get further away, then a visit to Palaia Epidaurus and the Ancient Theater known for its amazing acoustics.

Chalkis on Evia island

Not exactly a historical place to visit but the tide that you can watch from the bridge is a unique phenomenal in Greece. If you are there the correct time of the day you might be lucky enough to see the water changing direction while enjoying a sunset at the bridge.

You can visit Chalkis even with the bus from Athens as there are scheduled buses every often.

Delphi and Arachova

It was believed that Delphi was the center of the center of the world and now it is one of the most popular ancient sites in Greece. The Temple of Apollo, the Ancient Theatre and the Ancient Stadium, as well as the Archeological museum are among the sites. While your tour can also include the village of Arachova that is close by.

Located on the hills, with breathtaking views, Arachova can offer a good stop on your way back, for dinner at one of the many small tavernas and restaurants.

Nafplio

Nafplio is a seaport town that can be also included on your sailing itinerary if your plans are to sail in the Saronic and Argolic Gulfs.

But even if not, then it could be one place to visit as it is one of the most beautiful cities in Argolis and one of the most romantic cities in Greece. Palamidi castle is famous for its 999 steps carved into the rock, while the tiny island right across, ‘Bourtzi’ is one of the most photographed places in Greece. Nafplio is only 94 km far from Athens and can be easily reached also by the suburban buses.
